About Mrs. Pattison (formerly Ms. Slayter)
Born and raised in Hawai'i, I have always loved math. Although I began college with the intent of becoming a structural engineer, it was through tutoring my older sister that I realized teaching was my true passion.
I now hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics and a Master’s of Education in Secondary Education with an emphasis in teaching Mathematics both degrees from Hawaii Pacific University. This is my thirteenth year teaching, and my twelfth year at Radford High School. Over the years, I have taught courses from Pre-Algebra to AP Statistics. This year, I am teaching Geometry, Algebra2, and Math Workshop (Algebra 2). I am also the math tutor for Transition Center tutoring which begins September 4, 2017 (see Tutoring Options for more details about Transition Center Tutoring).
I am very excited to be teaching at Radford, alongside teachers who once taught me. Being a Radford alumni, and returning to teach at Radford, has taught me the true value of great educators.
In addition to teaching math at Radford, I also teach undergraduate mathematics courses at Hawaii Pacific University with their Military Campus Program.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking and baking, working on cars, playing volleyball, and salsa dancing. I am currently the advisor to both Mu Alpha Theta (the Math Team) and the Latin Dance Club. Mu Alpha competes against other school in Hawaii in various math concepts monthly. Latin Dance Club hopes to showcase their dancing on MultiCultural Day in April 2018.
